ZJTV Launches With Range

Faced with the task of creating a space built both for broadcast news and a quiz show, Zhejiang Satellite TV News brought us a challenge unlike any before. This sleek-lined project includes two studio spaces meant to interact both in broadcast and show. Vibrantly colored with scenic lightboxes and juxtaposed wooden panels broken up with brushed metal finish mullions, ZJTV holds a balance of playfulness and seriousness that match each 360 degree space’s needs.

The program aired July 28th in Hangzhou, China.

Clickspring Nominated for 41st Annual News & Documentary Emmys

We’re honored and excited to announce that our work for the 2020 CNN Democratic Presidential Debate in Detroit as well as the 2020 NBC News Democratic Debate Special have been nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Lighting Direction and Scenic Design!

Both of these projects represent the successes of design as a collaborative process. This year’s Democratic primary debates challenged our designers to accommodate a variety of candidates, venues, and formats, and we’re proud of the flexibility and stature that shines through both of these projects.

With the NBC debate stage utilizing LED in an adaptable fashion, imagery of the iconic white house and the theme of transparency shine through during these significant television moments.

The CNN debate stage capitalized on a circular star-studded truss suspended above a restrained stage setting allowing for accommodation across all venue sizes.

We are proud of the teamwork that earned these nomination and look forward to watching the results reel in this September.

Learn more about both of these projects here and here.

Clickspring Designers Stay Creative in Quarantine

What have we been up to in quarantine? Finding creative ways to exercise newly learned skills!

Danielle and Jacob, designers in our Austin office, submitted work for an architectural drawing challenge called HomeTown by Archisource. The brief of this project was to create an isometric drawing which speaks to your experiences and inspirations in quarantine. In between time spent working on projects, our staff have been honing their Cinema4D abilities. (Cinema4D is one of our most used softwares in creating our studio designs.) They both created these drawings using skills learned through the Cinema4D development time to create their finished product!

Over 600 drawings were submitted and the final tessellated drawing can be found here. And even more exciting, the work is being published in a book, which can be found here.

Pride.

Our diverse body of work would be impossible without celebrating the diversity within our studio. To all of our LGBTQ+ and allied staff, thank you for making us Clickspring.

Clickspring Pets Adapt to Work From Home

The past few months have been a period of adjustment for all of us at Clickspring Design. We are working from home and learning to adapt to video calls instead of face-to-face meetings… and so are our pets!

Our pets convened without us for a happy hour last week to discuss the future of broadcast set design and corporate branded interiors. Check out this screen grab from their Zoom meeting! Most of them were able to get video and audio set up correctly, but others seemed to have a tougher learning curve (looking at you Carlow and Rhona). Only a few were caught napping (Bee, Cheeto, Max, Babs, and River), three were highly overwhelmed (Lulu, Cloudy, and Cutesie), and two were extremely fed up (Beez and Toboe).

Overall, we are so impressed by how quickly they’ve picked up a new tool.

Al Arabiya Reinvents Traditional Studio Methodologies

We created a brand-new design revamp for Al Arabiya’s on-air spaces. This redesign includes cutting edge technology utilizing LED panels and robotic cameras to propel the network into the future of broadcast.

This new Al Arabiya design reinvents traditional studio methodologies by distributing multiple broadcast zones throughout an active newsroom environment. Decentralization allows numerous camera positions focused both toward the interior and especially toward the exterior of the space – multiplying the options for a diverse on-air presence while creating a unique sense of place.

We created specific spaces for each kind of broadcast to thrive: news coverage with LED arrays to support longer and more in-depth reporting, social media coverage with tall narrow displays mimicking that of a smart phone, and reporting analytics shown by multiple graphics in a dynamic dashboard format.

Al Arabiya Uses Robotic Cameras and Augmented Reality in New Dubai HQ

Our redesign for Al Arabiya is live! Years in the making, our comprehensive master plan of their Dubai headquarters included the design of three state-of -the-art open studios and facilities supporting over two hundred positions for editorial and technical staff. Thirteen robotic cameras facilitate a variety of augmented reality applications, giving the network an ability to operate 24/7 and allowing technicians to change the studios’ graphics and lighting in seconds to accommodate a variety of shows and social media.
With 24/7 free-to-air news and current affairs content, the Al Arabiya News Channel is the top ranked news channel in the region and reaches 36 million viewers per week. The network has recently seen a strong increase in digital and social media content, and their technology upgrade will help continue this growth. “The network has always stayed ahead of the curve compared to its competitors by renewing itself either through branding or improving its content,” says Mamdouh Almuhaini, General Manager of the Al Arabiya Media Network. Our goal was to help them continue this trend as the future of broadcast design evolves.
